Artist's Comments

Lo and behold, I CG'd a Sonic sketch. Took about three days of dedicated work, which is tough for me, because I always like working on lots of stuff at the same time. I figured this was the only one that was worth it.

I went for the Sonic Team style for the shinyness, but added a lot of my own touches for the drawing itself, especially the extra-bold outline. The outline looks kind of like the Sonic Battle style. The coloring looks a lot like the Sonic X style, but I went a lot darker on it just because I like it better that way. It's basically an odd mix of Sonic Adventure, Sonic Battle, and Sonic X styles for the CGing, and my own style for the drawing itself. Whaddya think?

Awesome sketch. I envy you and you being able to draw in sonic style. I can but its not that good looks too anime-ish XP

Damn, that's awesome.

You asked for critique...so...well, on the spikes' shine, it's kind of well...it's not round, to say. ^^;

How cool is that?! I love Sonic - you make him look so cool.

Which spike? The one off the back of his head? Yeah, it still looks a little polygonish. I let it slide, since it made the pic look a little rougher. I kind of bent the rules on the Sonic Team style, like no harsh corners and whatnot; I like it better this way anyway. Good point, though. Next time I go to do a Sonic Team-ish pic, I need to keep it all rounded and smooth.
:iconstriderknight:
Yeah, I meant the spikes. Looking back at the picture, you have a point. I think you can smoothen it by select/modify/smooth. ^^;

Just a tip.

Looks great dude. The only thing that immediately jumps to mind is that there might be some inconsistencies with the lighting. In some spots you're going for something that looks more bottom lit, while in others (the socks for instance) it looks like the lighting is coming from the top. It's really hard to try to give Sonic form. We all grew up drawing him from the same angle, and then all of a sudden, we find out he's in 3D, and has more spikes than we thought, and all this nonsense. Those were the days, eh? Also, don't be afraid to give your characters some environment! I noticed this in some of your other things as well, and it'd be cool to maybe see you explore more characters in a space. Keep up the great work!
